Why do scientists say that our Universe began with a “big bang” 14 billion years ago? Where did the idea come from? What is it that the Big Bang Theory does, and does not, say about how the Universe began? How is the theory useful in pursuing further science? Observations supporting the theory’s origin and predictions will be discussed.
